Hi,

My DS is starting school next week and I was wondering what everyone's school morning routines are. Up, breakfast, wash, dress, teeth etc.
I'm expecting twins in early January and I want everything to run as smoothly as possible.
Any advice welcome

Thank you Smile

It really depends on what time your children wake up and what time you have to leave.

Mine wake up around 6:30 and we leave at 8:30 so we have loads of time. They usually go downstairs and have breakfast while I make packed lunches. Then up to get dressed, brush teeth and hair. I get showered and dressed. Check bags, shoes on and go.

Some people get dressed before breakfast but it works better for us this way as all 3 are hangry and need to eat straightaway.

I have younger school kids - I won't be doing all of this when they are older!

I do packed lunches, put breakfast cereal and bowls/spoons out and lay out uniforms on the sofa downstairs the night before, and make sure the school shoes and coats are ready by the front door. I also lay out my own clothes so I don't have to fanny about. This is all for my own peace of mind as much as anything, because then I can go to sleep knowing we are all set.

Kids wake up and come down and get their own breakfast and then get themselves dressed. Once they are done they brush their teeth. If they've done this in good time they are rewarded with 10/15 min playtime. If not, it's shoes on and out the door. This all takes 45min total (including the playtime if they get it).

I have a 6 year old with special needs and a toddler so routine is crucial.

I get things ready the night before - uniform layed out, lunch made if needed, bag packed and any books or homework completed and ready to go.

We get up around 6. Routine is me having a shower when we get up.. Then breakfast/play/Tv for the children. I get the children washed and dressed between 7.30 and 8 then chill for half an hour before we leave (while I clean up from breakfast).

We have a 2.5 yo who needs to be ready for nursery and an 8mo, so quite different ages but maybe some things could be done the same.

I set the table for breakfast in the evening - only takes a few minutes with one pair of hands, as opposed to 10 min with 2 kids round my ankles in the morning.

I shower the night before and think about what I'm going to wear. Post partum this wasn't possible though as I was a horrible sweaty milky mess at night for the first few months!

Kids' clothes I put out downstairs the night before.

Toothbrushes and hairbrushes are in the downstairs loo. So kids come down in pyjamas, eat breakfast then get ready downstairs. Much easier than having to chaperone them both up and down again! I also have my makeup bag downstairs and try to slap something on while they're eating.
