Anyone been involved with NSPCC befriending scheme?

I hadn't heard of this until this week, when a woman I was working with told me it had been the only thing that had helped her.

She's a young woman with quite severe learning difficulties, she's got a 2yr old daughter who she loves dearly.

Social Services have wanted to take her DD off her as she is in many ways an inadequate mother, but she has had a befriender from the NSPCC, who has really helped her.

The befrineder is another mother who has helped her with the shopping, taken her and DD to the park and helped her set up a bedtime routine. The young woman has no frinds or support systems (been in care herself all her childhood) and the visits from her befriender were a lifeline.

This seems a great idea to me, anyone been involved with it?

Thanks Daffodil

I hadn't heard of it either, and obviously not many poeple have, which is a shame as it does souind like exactly what many mothers need, amd something others of us could get involved in.

I might contact ythr NSPCC to get more onfo.
