1 year old DD black eye WWYD?

1 year old DD was walloped around the face with a hard plastic toy, by a bigger child whilst in playgroup this morning. She had a bit of a cry, but settled down with a cuddle. Underneath her eye has now gone purple. She seems ok otherwise. Although I was sitting next to her and supervising her the bigger child was left to his own devices, and the mum didn't even come over, despite other mums making a fuss. But, nothing I can do about that now. Anyway, my question is, is there anything I should do about the black eye? Get the pharmacist to check her? Is there any point that I should be taking her to the doctor? She isn't keen on my touching that side of her face now.

Anyone there?

Is it swollen? Have you tried a cool pack on it?

It's a bruise , it will get better ,. just needs time .

Fun fact: both ds and I have (to date) each only ever had one black eye. Both were caused by a dog (not the same dog).

Maybe try some arnica on it to bring the bruising down and something cold if she can stand it. Hope she feels better soon. If it was just a minor bump I wouldn't be too overly concerned.

Check the packs to see if it's ok to use on a young child. It'll be fine.

Thanks everyone. Used a cold cloth, and spoke to our pharmacist, who recommended some baby neurofen for the swelling. She is happier today, with a brilliant purple streak under her eye! The other child really did wallop her, so I guess she is just lucky it wasn't any worse!
