Thumb suckers? Do they ever stop?

We wer dead chuffed when our angelic dd found her thumb a t 4 weeks old and soothed herself off to sleep.

The thing is she's 20 months now and shows no sign of losing the thumb...now i don't want to deprive her of her comfort but i am starting to worry about her having screwed up teeth.

I almost wish she had a dummy cos at least then we can ditch it when the time is right

Anyone got stories, suggestions? Other than the chinese thumb-screws, I mean...

i sucked mine till i was in my teens, my teeth are ok.
DD1 3.5 yo sucks her finger, but not as much as she used to.
I wish DD2 would suck hers, it would help her go to sleep im sure...
I wouldnt worry about it, its better than a dummy, they cant lose it...

ds 23.5 months and still sucks his thumb so no advice but will be watching cos think we need help too.

same here. Suck thumb when completely stressed out, tired, sobbing, emotional. Not v. comforting anymore but still.

dd2 is 2 in a couple of weeks and loves to suck her thumb. I don't have a problem with it at all. I sucked mine till I was about 10 or 11 and my teeth are fine. I'm hoping she will be fine too. Agree with the not being able to lose her thumb and don't feel like I could take away her comfort.

9 year old still at it. I tried the nasty stuff and she was sick so felt really guilty. She only really does it when she is tired or in her sleep.
Son had a dummy which was so much easier to get rid of.

Used to care for a lady in her eighties and she went to sleep sucking her thumb.

My sister 42 still sucks her thumb

I stopped about aged 10. My teeth are ok. I really don't think anything could have made me stop sooner tbh.

I stopped at 12 when I was put in braces (no room for thumb anymore...) It did pull my front teeth out but braces pulled them back in again so no real harm done!
I do still suck it now and again when tired or emotional (usually both).

Should add that my teeth are fine but I was lucky to have a natural overbite so my thumb fit(s) in perfectly without damaging the teeth

I have natural overbite too but I used to hook my fingers over my nose while I sucked my thumb and I guess that was what pulled my teeth forward.

Sorry just read openig thread mys big sis still sucks thumb at 42 never neede brace. my sis still sucks thumb and had train tracks. my DD sucks thumb and I wouldn'e dream of making her stop.

I sucked my thumb until I was around 11 or 12. Never had a brace and my teeth are very straight if I do say so myself

It does still slip in very occasionally when i'm really tired, ill or upset. DP takes the piss out of me but I don't care, it makes me feel better.

Thumbsuckers anonymous! I still do it and I'm 35 (it's why I used dummies with mine)

A reason why i gave my 2 a dummy. Friends daughter still sucks her thumb and a work colleague still sucked hers and she was 35
