Babywearers - Anyone made their own wrap?

My sis wants to make me a wrap for a pressie but I have no idea what material would be best.

It has to hold a 13 month old for a good while and a newborn in about 5 months....

Any ideas? What are your wraps made of?!

Buy one on ebay and sew some applique on it or something - they are really expensive to make because the material is expensive. Also you'll get the blame if it doesn't work properly if you make it.

It depends on weight though what material/pattern you use. Go to wearyourbaby.com and have a look....

Are you following me?

I have a wrap on the way from ebay but she is a costume designer so has access to loads of cheapo good quality material and super duper machines but she keeps asking me 'what about jersey, or calico, or ....'

Like I have an F'in clue what she is talking about!

She wants to make it for when I go to visit later this month so I can't send her one to look at either....

if she can find good quality 100% cotton with a diagonal weave (as well as a vertical and horizontal weave) so it stretches in all directions that will be v. good. would be a light to medium weight cotton that would keep getting softer as it washes. check its tie-ability

or: for a starter wrap 100% cotton, medium heavy. it stretches so very forgiving for a beginner. poss. easier to find and cheaper than the material above.

So would a lightweight denim work? Or am I way off track!

no it wouldn't imo. you want a cloth with a diagonal weave but flat. the twill in denim will make it hard to work with.
