Doula?

I'm ttc #2 so jumping the gun a little but I've been thinking of having a doula attend with my husband and I if/when we get pregnant.
People keep telling me that midwives leave you to it a bit more if it's not your first baby. However I'm terrified, I had a 4 hour labour last time and they kept leaving me saying I'd be hours yet and didn't believe me when I started pushing. I then haemorrhaged and needed surgery afterwards. I had nightmares for so long afterwards and think it has scarred me a little!
Wondering if anyone has had one?

I didn't have one last time but I'm now 20 weeks with DC2 and have been looking into it and met with one local Doula recently.
I'm considering partly due to a pretty horrendous experience with DC1 including haemorrhage and surgery and partly due to the complete lack of post natal support I experienced last time.

I think if you can afford it and find someone you feel comfortable with, it can only help to make the birth a more positive experience.

Good luck TTC x

Yes I think a doula would have been a great idea. I didn't know about them with my first, and didn't get my act together properly with my second, so I've never had one - but I wish I did!

Several friends used one, and any that did had a really positive experience.

I had one for my second Baby and she was an amazing help through pregnancy and childbirth.

Why not, if you can afford it. Extra support is never a bad thing. You may find you don't need it. Most second time labours are plain sailing to be fair. And faster.

Same situation. Just started ttc number 2 and I think I'd like one. My other thought is that my DP wouldn't be there so much this time (my concern is DS being left with someone at home when I'm in hospital and honestly I think I might want my DP to stay with him rather than be with me, if he's upset) and I don't want to be giving birth alone.
My birth last time was fine but there were a few things that happened immediately afterwards that I don't want to repeat.
