Does anyone have any recommendations? DS loves books and us reading bedtime stories, but really want him to start reading with us.
Thank you in advance.

My DS has just turned 7 and he really likes the Daisy books by Kes Gray ( I think that's how you spell it!) They're stories of a similar aged girl called Daisy getting up to all sorts of mischief. The last one we read was Daisy and the Trouble with Piggy Banks, where she sold her mum's jewellery at a car boot sale so she could buy a scooter. I quite enjoy them too - although Daisy does naughty things, they're quite wholesome IYSWIM. Much better than Horrid Henry!

DS1 (5) was given a box set of Ladybird Read It Yourself books recently.

They're in 4 different levels, our set has a mix of classic fairytale/fables, more modern stories, and some "character " stories (e.g. Peppa Pig). Retold in simpler language so easier for an early reader to manage. I've also seen some additional ones not in our set in the library, including non-fiction ones (dinosaurs and astronauts).
DS1 is on yellow level on the reading scheme books at school, I'd say the easiest level in the Read It Yourself books is a little harder than that.

Dirty Bertie? Ds loves these

Mr Gum - brilliant, we all like these books!

Pamela Butchart - her books are really good, There's a werewolf in.my tent, Myheadteacher is a vampire rat, Attack of the demon dinner ladies etc

My DC love Horrid Henry (you can get some Early Reader ones) and Captain Underpants.

Your local library should have an early reader section for you both to browse.
