cloth nappies - she is screaming

Today is the 1st day i've used cloth and only 1.5hr after putting it on my dughter is screaming and didn't stop till i took the nappy off. It was a rainbow bots which come with attached booster and fleece liner. The liner felt damp and i think this is why she was so upset - used to disposables which lock in the moisture. She now has a disposable on and is fine!

Is this right should she feel the wetness? even with the liner and booster? and only after 1.5hrs - she is only 2 months old and not a particulary heavy wetter

all advice greatly appreciated

The fleece liner should help keep her dry (not as dry as a disp nappy but deffinatly comfortable). I am wondering if you pre washed your nappies three or more times prior to use, if not it could be that the fibres haven't been "aggitated" enough and there may be manufacturers residue n the nappy that means it isn't absorbing the wee.

Some babies will notice the difference when changing from a disp to cloth, others won't, if iit is the fact that she finds the cloth "wet" compared to a disp you could try a Motherease Stay Dry liner (they are a very thin, washable liner that tend to keep bottoms a bit drier than fleece.

I washed 3 times prior to her wearing them. 1st time with bit of ecover washing solution 2nd and 3rd time on 40 degree with no solution

Will she just get used to feeling 'wet' or is there some way that I can keep her dry without having to change her every 20 minutes? will look at the ME liner.

I have to say that the nappy was alot wetter than the fleec liner though

She will feel some wetness but it shouldn't bother her unless she has bad rash. Just think of all the weirdy chemicals needed in disposables to keep baby's bum dry with that much wet!

Fleece should help.

I would expect to change a 2 month old 6 times a day whether in sposies or cloth if that helps?

It is definately bothering her - no rash though
yes 6-8 times a day but she is getting grumpy much sooner, like i said after 1.5 hrs of wearing it. My daughter obviously likes all the nasty chemicals! The fleece was what i would call damp/slightly wet but enough for her to notice and not be happy about it - She has never screamed like that before other than when she wakes up mega hungry!

IMO babies do not usually notice wearing a cloth nappy - the fleece liner wicks moisture away into the nappy and the body heat keeps the nappy warm so if there was any wetness it wouldnt be uncomfortable. The only thing I would say is that Tots Bots Rainbow Bots are a lighter weight terry so do not last as long as some other nappies - perhaps they had reached their absorbancy level???

Could there have been something else making your dd uncomfortable - elastication or the wrap?
