Hi guys,

Right after bit of advise etc. Has anybody tried combined feeding? All through my pregnancy this time my heads been set on bottle feeding , due to my youngest being severely poorly and his liver shutting down when I breastfed as my milk was not the fatty hind milk just the watery milk. Very traumatic back and forward to hospital, hence why this time I was put off breastfeeding.

As time goes on I would love to give it another go but absolutely terrified it would happen again and I would not want to relive what Noah went through.

So I've been looking at combined feeding.....

Anyone clued up?

Xx

Sorry to hear you had such a hard time with your first. It's understandable that you want to be prepared with all the options this time.
The issue with combination feeding from the off is that your supply will really struggle to get going, so what often happens is that the breastmilk HAS to be supplemented with formula rather than it being a choice you've made.
I'm sure others with experience of combination feeding will be here soon with lots more personal experience, but for me I think you should get in touch with a really good lactation consultant who is ready to support you when the time comes.

We combination fed due to low supply. It worked well for us as it allowed us to continue bf but DS was still getting fed enough. For the first 6 ish weeks it was a constant whirl of feed, then supplement then express then do it all over again and I accepted that exclusive bf was not the way forward for us as it was ruining my life!

Once I made the decision to just go with the mix feeding I did every other feed and then gradually moved to more and more bottle feeding. Especially out of the house as DS took forever to breastfeed. I also expressed where I could and he would take that from a bottle too. I felt he was a true least getting some bm rather than zero
