Why do you smoke? - How to answer?

I am a regular smoker. I never smoke inside the house and always make it a point to be far away from my kids when I light up.

However my kids do know I smoke and ask me "Why do you smoke when it is so bad for you?".

How do other smoking mums answer?

I have now given up but I smoked for years. When my kids used to ask me why I used to explain that when I was young it wasn't really understood how bad it is in the same way as it is these days. I also used to add the usual things about it being a killer etc.
I am very glad that I have been able to stop but I do miss it in some ways. I have had to change some of my habits in order not to put myself in situations where I wanted to smoke.
I really do recommend that you stop, but I guess everyone says that to you.

Well, why do you smoke when it's so bad for you?

Only you can answer that question because other people's reasons won't be the same.

Tell the truth.

You care more about smoking than you do about your health and the health of others around you.
