Is it colic?

Hello mums
My 4 and 1/2 week old DD last night cried after her last bottle despite bringing up wind. She seemed fine for most of today but from late afternoon onwards, she has been sore crying. I have tried to soothe her with cuddles and walks, tried milk and extra burping but she continued to cry until finally
she went down about an hour ago.
I feel useless and am now crying myself after holding it together so as not to upset DD more.
Is it colic or constipation? She has a dirty nappy on average every 2 days and can be a little grumpy before she goes but never anything like this.
I give her infacol to ease the burping and this on most occasions, works a treat.
Any advise great appreciated xx

Hi OP, something people don't usually tell you is that babies can be miserable buggers. We honestly rarely rarely know what's wrong with them. Probably not constipation (hands up any mum who hasn't thought their miserable baby was constipated on many occasions!) and colic is basically the word for 'we don't know why this baby is crying for days and days' so yep, it's probably colic. Someone will throw teething into the mix of possibilities shortly I promise.

Sorry if I sound like I'm being lighthearted when you're so stressed but I wanted you to understand this is all quite normal with the majority of babies, I think most of us have wanted to scream 'what the hell is wrong with you' on more than one occasion to our miserable, incessantly crying babies.

I think you will know when something is really really wrong that a doc needs to check out but please do take comfort in the fact that babies can make you think they MUST be in horrific pain to make that noise etc. When really it's just babies doing what babies do.

Also remember, you are programmed to react (massively) to your own babies cries so the stress levels when they do cry and nothing fixes it are horrific.

I hope things settle down soon. It's very very hard to listen to.

It sounds your baby has reflux. My LO was having the similar problem and was diagnosed with reflux. We were on zantac for a while but it didn't help and later on, he was on babies magic tea which settled his reflux and he became soothed!
