Hand Foot and Mouth Disease

I'm almost 100% sure DD (2.9) has HFMD. Yesterday she was running a really high temp and was very lethargic, also sick twice. This morning she woke up with small red spots around her mouth (mainly at one corner of her lip) and also some on her wrists/inside of her arm and one or two on her foot.

She's not got a temp today and although is still a little tired (took a nap which is rare!) she's in good form. I think the spots are getting a little itchy.

My question is - is it likely to get worse? Or after the 1st day would have have expected more? Is she going to wake up covered?

She's eating and drinking ok so far, appetite not 100% but still managing.

Also, I have another DD who is 6 weeks old - how likely is she to get it and if so, is it dangerous for babies that young?

Thanks!

It's very contagious so likely your younger DD will get it. I don't know if it's considered more risky in young babies but worth a call to 111 I'd say. It incubates for a few days before the spots come out, by which time the worst is over, so the baby could be feeling unwell already even if no sign she has it.

My DP caught it from our daughter and he said it the palms of his hands and soles of feet were painful before the spots came out, so don't believe any HCP who says it's not sore for them.

I've caught her rubbing her hands then defensively saying 'they're fine!' If she sees me looking, so wonder if they'll appear.

Hope it's not s bad case Sad

My DS had it and was pretty unbothered after the first day or so. I got it too though and was really really ill. I didn't feel right for weeks afterwards. Really hope you don't get it!

My DS had it. He wasn't bothered by his hands or legs, but he got spots in his mouth which he hated.

The one thing that seemed to help him was cold custard. He ate an awful lot of it for a week or so!
