Deed poll or change of name deed

I am changing dd's surname. I have the forms from deed poll, rang a solicitor to ask them to sign it (one page says it requires this) & was told they have nothing to do with & know nothing about deed poll but for £150 they can do a change of name deed which is also official.

Wondering if anyone has experience of either? I'm not sure if either is preferable. The change of name deed seems easiest & they have told me accepted by passport office etc & definitely an official change!

If you have any knowledge or experience of this, would you mind sharing which one you've done/would choose & why to help me decide please?

Massively expensive! Did mine for about £30 - cut out the middle man. Have a look online but it was £33 back in 2012 for me and sure it won't have gone up that much
