When did your child use the toilet independently?

DS 2 1/2 is toilet trained but no where near independent. He will use the potty alone if he's naked but otherwise needs help (pulling his trousers up and down and wiping him).

What sort of age should I be aiming for with doing these things for himself?

About 3-4, sounds like your ds is doing really well, by 3 I'm sure he'll have sorted it out, make sure his wearing easy clothes to manage and keep doing what your doing

Mine showed lots of encouraging signs at 2 and half ish so potty trained but really it wasn't until he was 3 and a few month that he started saying he wanted the loo, toddling off to the loo, pulling everything down, gettin on the loo and then washing his hands. He does this now and it feels like magic! It just somehow clicked for him. Now all we have to do is convince him to put his pants and trousers back on! Yesterday he did a full on penis wipe across the back of the poor unsuspecting washing machine repair man who was kneeling in my kitchen!! He was fully clothes seconds before!

My little girl turned 3 in may and has just in the last few weeks started using the toilet independently (with a step). She's been potty trained for a year but had always needed help with trousers and wiping previously.

Watching this with interest as DS(2) apparently needs to be able to do it all by himself by the time he starts preschool in September. He would have only just turned 3 a few weeks before starting. They'll be lucky if he's even properly potty trained at the rate we're going, let alone doing everything by himself. The only time he goes to the toilet without prompting is if he's naked at home. I have to take him every now and again if in clothes and he usually does go so obviously needed to go but doesn't tell me. There's no way on earth he will be getting clothes down, using toilet, wiping, pulling clothes up, washing hands etc all on his own Sad

Wow glittery that's harsh for pre school! My dd2 is starting pre school in sept and she'll be 2 on 2nd sept they told me I just supply the nappies but they don't expect her to be clean!
Good luck with that 😂

Mine is 2yr10m and has just decided he wants to use the toilet. I thought he'd need help but actually just goes away himself and can get his trousers on and off, hops on using a step. Unfortunately he has no concept of wiping so i have to stay close by!
