Please reassure me this is ok now - blankets

DD has just turned two, and is still happily in her cot. Uses a grobag (unless it's too hot, then just sleepsuit/pyjamas).

Lately she's enjoyed snuggling up under blankets, on our pillows if in bed with us etc, and I feel like it's time she'd enjoy her own pillow and cot duvet. I just can't shake the panic that she'll accidentally suffocate if she sleeps with them.

I know babies are fine to have pillows/blankets from age 1, but I'm finding it really hard to overcome. Please can you reassure me that she'll be fine?? Or any safety tips that would still apply??

Sorry - PFB as you can tell!!

Yep, she'll be fine. My newly two year old has a toddler bed size duvet amd is just fine.

I suppose, don't get a too big or too heavy one then you don't need to worry about over heating.

My daughter doesn't have a pillow, although her sister had one at a younger age, but again just go for quite a flat one.

DD2 was 2 last week and his been in a full size single bed with duvet and pillow since she was 18 months... she's fine! I get the occasional shout in the middle of the night to put her covers on when they've fallen off though.

It's fine! The no blanket advice is because babies can't move independently to get them off if the blanket covers their face or something. Two year olds can!

A two year old will definitely be safe! If it reassures you, try putting a blanket over her head, and watch as she easily pulls it off.

Cracked up haha that's so cute and funny 😂

My DS is 2.5 and he is still in his cot. We gave him a pillow when he was 1, but he was still in grow bags up until two months ago and then we switched to blankets.

We will be moving him to a toddler bed just before his third birthday as we will be in our new house then, unless he suddenly starts trying to climb out before then.

Thank you all for the reassurance! My head knows she'll be absolutely fine; it has just failed to pass this info on to my less rational side.

She's fine untangling herself from things, I guess I just worry when she's asleep.

We've just bought a cot duvet/pillow set so will try it this weekend!

Ours has had a pillow and cot duvet since he was around 18 months - you'll be fine. :) The bigger challenge will be to move her out of the cot and into a normal bed...!
