Worried about taking my 4.5 year old springboard diving

Hello,

My wife is keen to take my 4.5 year old daughter springboard diving off a 1m springboard.

My wife has done a little bit of diving in the past and my daughter is a reasonable swimmer, but I am a bit worried that she could have an accident on the board or get a bit over excited. She seems so little.

Are my concerns valid or am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks,
Matthew

I think you are worried about nothing.
At 4.5 your daughter won't have the weight to make the board move particularly much, so she won't get launched into the air. The most she will be able to do is jump off the end.

Accidents occur when people are either highly experienced doing complicated dives, or when they behave like an idiot.

And lastly diving pools are supervised, your daughter will be supervised, and it's fun.

Thank you, that is reassuring.

I think she will be okay. My local leisure centre has a big diving training centre and there are kids that age on the boards a lot. Just make sure she only does jumps feet first at first. Before trying any actual dives.
