Toddler poo

Sorry for the slightly gross topic.

DS is almost 17 months old. For the last month or 6 weeks I have been a bit concerned about his poo. He normally has two dirty nappies a day, although it varies. What is concerning me is that he seems to be swinging from rock hard pellets to pasty newborn consistency type poos (though never watery). Sometimes in the same day!

He drinks lots of water and his diet is generally ok, he eats lots of fruit although has been going through a fussy stage and is probably not eating enough veg at the moment and having too much bread.

I'm just a bit concerned by how wildly the poos are varying! Should I be taking him to the doctor about this? Should say that he never seems in pain or straining when he goes.

Snap! I remembered I had some baby probiotics from when he'd been ill a while ago so gave him those for a few days and his poos were consistently firm and tip-down-the-toilet-able within about 24 hours; amazing! After a week or so I thought I must've addressed the gut bacteria balance so stopped bothering but we're now back on sludgey nappies so going to start giving them again and keep doing so for a bit longer.

These are what we've got if you want to see if they help www.optibacprobiotics.co.uk/shop/for-babies-children

Thanks ThePug - hadn't thought to try a probiotic. I'll get some this weekend.
