Sore nipples - treatment hasn't helped

I've had sore nipples from feeding my baby for the last 5 weeks.

He had tongue tie which hit snipped and also oral thrush which we have both been treated for.

However my nipples are still so sore. One is worse than the other.

Ive tried clotrimazole, miconazole, coconut oil, lanishol and nothing seems to help improve them.

It's so bad that I can't stand them being touched by anything and even putting on a bra or wearing a top to bed is agony.

Can anyone suggest anything else to try?

Do you still have thrush or are your nipples 'just' sore from feeding?

tiba · 18/07/2017 20:51

I'm not showing symptoms of thrush and baby hasn't got thrush any longer.

I've been using thrush creams on my nipples for the last 4 weeks and it's made no difference so assuming it can't be thrush

Have you tried using nipple shields when feeding to give your nipples a break? Also putting cling film over your nipples once you've put lansinoh on to help soak it in.

How's the latch? Do you think you need to get him checked in case the TT has reattached as this could be the cause of the pain?

Only using nipple shields due to the pain

His tongue tie is healed well but he still is 'chomping' like he was before getting it cut

I used the breast shells in between feedings and it helped mine so much . They have holes at the top of shell so your nipples can breathe. You can wear them inside your bra . You may already be aware of them but here they are if not :

Hope they help ! Having sore nipples is awful . In the pack there is also a shell that collects the breast milk if you leak .
Let us know how you get on 😊

Shells are a good idea but get the tongue reassessed too.

Nipple shields were my salvation. I wouldn't still be breastfeeding if it weren't for them. I feel for you, it's agony. Hope it gets better soon.

How are you getting on op ?
Hope things are improving.

The shells arrived and have been wearing them whilst around the house for the past few days.
It's given enough of a break for my nipples to repair.
I've also got some Kamillosan on its way which is meant to be wonderous stuff.
