Hi all

Unfortunately my DD will not drink water, the only was to get any fluids in her is to give her a tiny bit of no added sugar squash in it or flavoured water.
What do you think is best for children or do you think their pretty much the same ?

I think they're pretty much the same.

And I'd keep offering water too. Perhaps starting when there's a slight change in routine, like going away on holiday.

I had real problems wth DS not taking water (currently 16m). It finally sorted itself once the weather got warmer and I started using cups with straws. If you look on Amazon for 'pixie cup', that's what worked for us. He can carry it himself and drink. Today he's had two bottles of plain water.

In answer to your actual question, if you're diluting it so it's almost not there I'd just go for no added sugar squash.

My ds won't really drink water unless it's through a straw or a sports bottle.

Be carefully with flavoured water as some has LOTS of sugar in it e.g. volvic.

Use squash so that you can regulate the amount you put in. I tried a flavoured water for the first time the other day and was amazed how sickly sweet it tasted.
As pp have said, I'd buy a couple of special plastic glasses with straws attached. Try water first in case the special glass is enough to encourage her to drink. If not, add a bit of squash. Gradually reduce the amount of squash so that you are barely putting any in.

Could you try one of those water bottles with the middle bit where you put fruit to infuse the water?

How old is she?

Id advise against no added sugar squash, personally, or at least tell you to do some research - there have been negative effects associated with the chemical sweeteners used, and aspartame especially.

Have you tried giving her water from the fridge? I call it 'magic water', DS loves it but he will drink water any way so I don't know if it would work with a water-refuser.

Thank you all so much for your comments.

She's 20 months. We have tried cold water and she doesn't like and it we have tried many cups and drinks bottles.

I think I'll keep regulating no added sugar squash because as you say I can control how much goes it and can try and put less and less.

I've never thought of those bottles with the fruit but what a great idea, she loves fruit. So I'll definitely have to give that a try.
