Toddler with a broken leg

My normally super-active DS has a broken leg. We've had 7 weeks in a cast which has now been replaced with a plastic boot. I'm seriously struggling to amuse him. Play dates have become lunch dates and we are both seriously frustrated. Impossible to keep him in one place and he's in a lot of pain. Need to get through 6 weeks of summer. Anyone been through anything similar? DS is 3.

No sorry so can't be of much use. What kind of things are you doing together?

Water play at a water table- making potions, sequins, food colouring, bubbles etc
Sand play at a table?
Junk modelling?
Flowers

I haven't done anything with food colouring, that's a good idea.
We've done arts & craft, water play and ball games you can use your hands for. I tried cinema but he wouldn't sit still and half way through the film announced it was home time. I work most days and he's at nursery so I really do need to make the most of the summer holidays.
