Peeing in the pool :-/

My son who is practically potty trained always seem to pee in his trunks when we go swimming, to the seaside or use the paddling pool. He also sometimes encourages his younger brother to do it despite the fact he knows it's not allowed. I can often tell if he's doing it because he'll stop in the water, get a smile on his face and look down, before moving on. It's not a huge deal on the beach or in the paddling pool, but in public swimming baths, I don't really want anyone to see him doing it and to risk being thrown out or told off.

Any ideas of how reinforce that he shouldn't do this?

I dont think you can stop it! i think it must be a normal bodily function for a small child to want to wee when he/she is in water. they always wee when they are in the bath. I just thought it was normal ?!

nope, my dd 2y6m wees in the bath, too, completely normal I'd say! She will sit on the potty for ages, and not do a drop, but as soon as she's in the bath " I done a wee-wee!".

Twiglet, your ds just isn't admitting it to you!

My ds loves weeing in the bath but dd never has!

Emily, I'm not sure how old your ds is but my ds did this for a bit a few months ago so I told him that the next time we went swimming he would have to go in swim nappies like the babies in the pool(in line with Twiglett's advice!). Next time, I got out the swim nappy to put on him and he was mortified. So now, when he needs a wee he asks nicely! To be honest, I'm not that stressed about it (I'm sure they're all doing it) it's just that ds used to like to announce to the rest of the pool that he was doing it ('I'm going to do a wee mummy, I'm doing a wee mummy, I've done a wee' at the top of his voice!).

Grown men wee in the pool! And teenage boys do it all the time. it's why I hate pools - and why they put chlorine in, so while I am pleased that you are doing your best to stem the tide of pool wee-ers, I wouldn't worry TOO much about it!
