Dd had her 4th birthday a few days back. Lots of texts, calls, presents and cards from my family and friends and just 2 cards and a tenner from all of dh's vast family. They've never been bothered that she even exists. They are a big family and I get that children appear every few months but you'd expect a bit more love no? I honestly bet she couldn't pick out her Nanny in a line up Angry.

I know I shouldn't moan because it'd be worse if they were always in our life but it still winds me up.

You're very lucky though that your own family care enough to remember and mark the day.

None of my children have ever received a card in the post even though I send a card for all of my nieces and nephews. Their birthdays are generally forgotten by both sides of family - it annoys me less than it used to... the important thing is that your child enjoys their birthday. I've wasted so much energy over the years being cross about what other people do or don't do - you can't change other people only how you react to other people.

Like Setsail says it's a waste of time. If there are not bothered just think of it as their loss.
DPs parents are getting on now and claim they miss seeing my boys. Well unfortunately all those years of being too busy and not interested means my boys don't want to visit you. It's harsh but true.

Don't give them the power to make you miserable.

My ds is my ils only gc and they don't give a flying fig about him. . Mil hasn't seen him since Jan 15 despite living less than 10 mins away. He was 4 months back then. No back story she had told dh years ago she never wanted to be a gm and she stuck to her word.
