Toilet training isn't going well

Training my 2yr 8 month old ds. He will sit a wee.. Fine.

But then all his legs covered in poo and after I showered him and explained to him to sit on the potty he wet again five minutes later.

I trained my last DC very easy.

Did he show any signs of knowing when he had done a wee/poo, or that he was about to? Maybe it's a bit too soon for him?

Maybe give it a break for a few months and try again? My DS suddenly got it at 3yrs3m after a few false starts.

He said none coming, none coming. But I don't think it bothered him with poo down his legs. At the same time, he doesn't want the nappy on anymore and wants a 'change me up' as soon as he does one.
