Roleplay - anyone else hate hearing these words?

"You are the daughter and I'm the Dad and [brother] is the sister".

This morning it was "I am the elephant and you are the pumpkin".

My heart sinks.
OK, so I'm not that fun, exciting, role play Mum I thought I would be before I had children. I'm so disappointed with myself that I find these games so bloody boring. I have no ideas. I always try to get out of it. Can't we just play a board game?

Anyone actually like playing role play games, and if so, please give me some ideas?!!!!

OMG - just as I've written this, my DD has walked through the kitchen carrying the elephant and the pumpkin outfit and has handed them to....my DH! ha ha.

Yes nothing worse than hearing mummy will you play teenage mutant ninja turtles - or Jake and the Pirates. Basically I have to sit there with a plastic figure in my hand saying unimaginative utterances in the character's voice until DS's plastic figure comes along and batters my plastic figure and my hand. Give me play dough or lego any day!

Oh no, its the fucking pits isn't it. Thought the 6 year old was bad, but now she has a lot to answer for, the 2 year olds have got it down to a t.

In my house it is called human playtime. I have no idea where that name came from but I hate it. My husband is brilliant at it.

I am dearly hoping the 5 year old will grow out of it before is 18 month sister picks it up.

The other day I was treated to "you be the toilet, I be the poo."

Oh god. I used to take mine to playgroup and she'd come at me with fucking toy animals: 'you be the goat, Mummy, and I'll be the giraffe.'
No dear, that's why I've fucking brought you HERE, so you can hopefully find other children to do this with and spare me!!

Thank God my child has never asked me to do this. DD2 is only 9 weeks. I have it coming don't I?!

It's horrendous. I can just about cope when I get to improvise be sarcastic but I usually get told what to say, how to react etc. It is mind numbing.

'You be Han Solo, I be a storm trooper'. The story would usually involve Han Solo going over for tea and pizza!

I'd ds2 ever wants to play he can do it with ds1 while I'm drinking tea and checking FB.

I'd happily play board games the entire day, bake, paint, do play doh, even sit in softplay for hours, but role play? 5 mins and I'm out. I'm so crap at it.

I don't mind roleplay if we play something I understand, like I'm Elsa and she's Anna or she's Aurora and I'm the prince/witch/dragon. But now she's started saying "let's play babies: I'll be the baby". I HATE playing babies. She does this stupid annoying voice and wants to be carried, bottle fed and constantly amused. Argh!

TheDuckSaysMoo - Absolutely. Everything you say is wrong. "No Mummy, we are not in the kitchen at the moment" or "I don't want you to sit there?!" and "That is not what's happening now. Nooooo!". But they actually don't have many alternative ideas. In the end I just say "I'm not playing if you won't let me play!" :-)

MrsPussinBoots playing babies is the worst. Mine wants to be breastfed but I draw the line there! I have no problem with breastfeeding older children - but I'm not pretending to as part of some dreadful role play game!

Oh gosh momdancing that just made me emotional reading that article because I was like finally someone who says how it is (I often felt like I was the only one who thought it!!). Could be the g&t making me emotional though

My 4yo is off to his dad's for the whole weekend (😀🎉🍸🍾) and I said what do you think mummy might like to do while you're away? And he said play ninja turtles!

I pathologically hate it. Dd 4 is into mummies and babies where she pretends to be a baby and it does my fucking head in! Luckily she's just managed to get ds to play along, he's just 2, so hopefully he can take my place more regularly
