Single bed for 16 month old?

My ds is 16 months old and has started trying to climb out his cot. I'm worried sick he will fall out. I don't want to get a toddler bed as I feel they are a waste of money really. Has anyone put their 16month olds in a single bed and had success? He can't stay in his cot!

Both of mine went straight into single beds around that age, we just put a couple of cushions on the floor incase they rolled out, didn't bother with a bed guard after the first night (when my oldest leaned over it and fell on his head 🙈)

Pink that was my concern about the rails. He's a very adventurous boy and I'm sure he would like to climb over the rail. Good tip about the cushions.

My DD went into a single at 16mo. We use foam bed guards which are like a foam wedge that sits under the sheet. They wouldn't stop an adventurous one from climbing over but they do stop them rolling. DD quite likes to snuggle up to hers!

We use a toddler bed mattress on the floor, perfect.

I wouldn't put my 18 month old in s proper bed I've got to be honest. I moved my four year old into an IKEA extendible bed when he was three. He has it on the middle setting at the moment but the smallest setting would be perfect for a younger child I think.
