8 week jabs - how do babies react

My son has his 8 week jabs tomorrow and I'm petrified. Luckily my dad is coming so he can hold him because even the thought makes me want to cry which probably makes me sound like such a drama queen:(

Anyway, how did your babies react to the 8 week jabs? I'm so scared he's gunna get ill or get a fever, I just wanted some reassurance:) x

Mine didn't react. He was a bit annoyed when the needle went in but that was it. Due to horror stories from my DM I was terrified but it was all absolutely fine. Gave him some milk and a cuddle which settled him whilst I had a chat with the Health visitor.

Mine howled. I held his hand and had my face close to his but didn't watch. After it was done I breastfed and cuddled him and he calmed down very quickly.

He did have a bit of a temperature later on though and was quiet and sleepy and just not himself for most of the day. We gave him calpol every 4 hours and lots of bf/cuddles.

DS was a little more grumpy than usual that evening, but other than that totally fine. Didn't appear to have a temp or any other side effects.
He cried when the needle went in (and I totally understand, that bit made me sad) but was fine after a cuddle.
Take some calpol with you as they advised to give it as soon as possible after the vaccination.

tbh, all mine howled at the time, and most of them had a spell of fever & fractiousness later that evening. But they all were fine the next day.

One of them got an impressive swelling at injection site... maybe that was 12 wk jab. That went away too. Try not to worry.

Had a cry at the jab, quite s severe howl then ran a temp all day, calpol controlled it though. Was very sleepy and didn't want much food at all. Lots of cuddles and she was fine!

Cried during, but the nurse was wonderful and smiled and played with him until he was calm.

He was possibly a little grumpier for 24 hrs afterwards but nothing awful.

Howled at the time, quickly settled and was sleepy for the rest of the day. Fine the next morning.

Cried at the time, for all of 2 mins, then fine until the eve when fever kicked in.

Had bought a flash ear thermometer which was massively reassuring as I could keep checking temp throughout the night.

Calpol and cuddles got us through!

His red scream came when he realised that after the first jab, two more followed and we obviously weren't listening to his immediate discontent

But is done quickly, hsve a boob / bottle / dummy / cuddle ready for immediate comfort and give first Calpol dose before leave.

We used the recommended three doses, didn't need a fourth top up. Son was bit unsettled and cried more over next 4-5 days, few looser nappies but all good and soon onto the 12 week jabs!

We gave our baby the recommended calpol and she didn't get a fever or anything. She slept a lot the first day and wanted lots of cuddles then was quite hungry the next day, probably after sleeping so much the day before. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting so don't worry too much about it, good luck!

She cried at the time but I sang to her to calm her down and was able to feed her. She had stopped crying by the time we left the surgery.
We have her the calpol as recommended and, other than being a little sleepy, she was fine.

mine hated the calpol more than anything!

he cried during the actual needle bits, but was ok afterwards. a bit hot and cross in the evening/night (but this was on wednesday and it was 33 degrees!) but one more calpol on thurs morning and he was absolutely fine after that.

He had a cry for a split second then got a bottle popped in his mouth, he was totally fine afterwards.

DD cried for a second then was fine. Was a bit grumpy after for a day.

Second lot she got more upset so third time I timed it with a bottle. Distract with food straight after seems to be the best way!

Also good idea taking someone with you. I was ok as DD had a lot of blood test in NICU and it was easy to watch compared to that but they an sense of you are nervous which can make them a bit worse.

Just remember that they will not remember having them done but you are giving them protections for life.

Thank you everyone, he cried at the time but was quiet by the time we left the surgery. He's been okay actually, whenever I pick him up he cries a bit more but I think he was tired because he's fallen asleep now. Was just wondering, what do I do about feeds? He's had 6 oz since his jab at 9:30 but he doesn't seem to want to have any more, he normally feeds every 3 hours or so ish. Do I still wake him up or just wait until he lets me know he's hungry?

I'd follow his cues. He'll let you know when he needs milk. I hope all continues peacefully.
