What normally comes first with potty training, control of bladder or control of bowels??

dd seems to have got potty training, now on day 3 and no accidents today, except for her daily poo! so far she hasn't done a poo in the potty only wees. she will take herself off to the potty for wees and yet wont for a poo. is this normal?

i thought they got bowel control before bladdes control!

It's normal, don't worry - let her poo in a nappy if she feels more comfortable. She'll soon be doing it in the right place.

well she doesnt ask to have a nappy on for it, just goes on the floor thanks for the reassurance tho. will not worry too much!

my ds is at the pooing on the floor stage. Not much fun, is it!

no not at all, at least she does proper poos so it doesnt acctually go everywhere (and she tells me)

used to know someone whos ds would do it behind the sofa etc and not tell her! !!

I had heard it was pooing first, then weeing, but my unstatistical sample of DS and his 8 contemporaries indicated it was more often weeing then pooing.

Doesn't stop a pair of pooed on pants being really yucky though...

PinkTulips · 21/03/2007 12:34

if dd is anything to go by they find a poo harder to hold back than a pee.

she'll tell us about both but while she can hold a pee long enough for even slowcoach dp to arse around getting the potty for her she often does half a poo in her pull ups amnd half in the potty

I thought that too until DS potty trained himself for weeing in a day. 8 months on, he still does a poo in his nappy every morning before he gets up. If he needs one in the day he'll go on the loo now, but it definitely came later.

If she isn't needing a nappy can you use rewards to get her to see that she could do it in the potty/toilet? I think maybe some children might be scared of falling down the loo for a poo, as you have to sit on it longer..!!

staceym11 · 21/03/2007 12:39

well she wees fine on the potty, and is having stickers for that (and a small chocolate after 3 stickers today, will go up to 5 tomo etc) but the poo she jsut doesnt get! i dont suppose she'll be doing it forever!
