Finger sucking

My little girl (12 weeks) has taken to sucking her fingers a lot. Don't want her to be a finger sucker when she is older - but hate the way dummies look. Any tips?

Oh bananaloaf I am so pleased that someone else is still sucking their fingers too! Like you only occasionally but good to know I'm not a complete wierdo (well maybe I am but at least I'm not the only one )

HK, I didn't need braces or a retainer even from being a finger sucker from about the same age as your dd, she might not need them but I can understand you might not want to take the risk. Sorry can't be more help.

Hiya

My 7 month old started at 6 weeks and has only stopped briefly since. It has the great advantage that she self soothes and is a really easy baby. My 4 year old used to bite her nails and I managed to get her to stop using reasoning, bribery and praise and am planning on doing the same re sucking with number 2 - you will have at least 6 years before the first real teeth come and plenty of opportunity to do something about it before that. The first few months are tough enough without trying to stop a problem that might never really develop. My only problem was that her fingers started to get sore - I just kept using socks as mittens and that seemed to slow things down a bit.

good Luck
