How often does your baby feed? Hungry baby!!

My little boy is 5 Weeks 3 days old and is now exclusively bottle fed with Aptamil first infant milk, I breastfed for 4 weeks before switching.
He is taking 6 oz every 3/4 hours but sometimes only takes 4oz or even 3oz but then wants feeding again an hour or so later.
Sometimes he will take a 6oz bottle like tonight for instance he had it at 7.30pm and by 8.30pm he wanted more! So OH is just giving him another bottle and he has taken an ounce happily.
My health visitor said to feed on demand like breast feeding and not to go off the side of the tin of milk as she said he will let me know when he wants more but I'm just worried about over feeding him 😬
When he's hungry for more whether it be 4 hours or an hour I'm sure it's hunger cues as when you out the test near his mouth his like a hungry animal and gobbles at the teat 😂
He was 8lb 8oz born went down to 7lb 12 oz and was 9lb 15 oz last Friday.
Anyone else find themselves with a hungry baby and feeding sooner than 4 hours?

My DS was an 8lb 10oz baby and fed on Aptamil too. He never went 4 hrs. I did though get him to 3.5 hrs between feeds and I also weaned him at 17 weeks! He was having 8oz bottles! My Mil and Mum said I should have weaned him earlier! He's now 10 and he's still on the 91st projectile for height and weight, he's a big strapping boy and lovely with it! He has no issues with food and can take or leave his food! I did give him a dummy when he was tiny and seemed to get him to a bit longer between feeds too. Good luck x 😀

Sounds normal to me.

my baby is 10 weeks and still feeds more often than every 4 hours (except at night) I am bfing however I am not sure that really matters. I would follow the advice of your hv and feed on demand.

My little boy is two now but at your ds age was on 6 5Oz bottles a day. I specifically remember as he moved to 5 6Oz bottles at 6 weeks. I was always told when he was consistently draining bottles to increase amount offered by an Oz.
When he was 3-4 weeks I did give him the dummy between feeds to stretch him out as he would only take a small amount and be wanting more a few hours later. This worked for me, and he was on four hourly feeds by six weeks. He never really wanted feeding any sooner and I just fed him four hours after his last feed.

Sounds like your lo is just a hungry boy though and nothing wrong with that! If he is too full he won't take it.

My DS (now nearly 2 so memory is a bit rusty) was definitely having 4/5oz every 2 hours during the day at 10 weeks (remember specifically cos we had family visiting that week with similar ages baby) But he could go a long time overnight so I didn't mind the frequent day feeds because of that. He went down to 6oz every 3 hours a week or so later which was better! If they're draining the bottle then offer an oz more next feed.

Plus isn't there a growth spurt around 5/6 weeks? Everything goes out the window then

Even at 2 years old he doesn't wait 4 hours between his meals during the day! He's a hungry child

Sounds normal to me. Get as many calories in during the day and they should sleep better at night. We often did feeds within 2 hours at that age.

dementedpixie · 16/06/2017 15:56

Mine never went to 4 hourly feeding until around 4 months old. At that age it was more like 2-3 hourly. Sounds normal tbh

melonribena · 16/06/2017 15:59

My ds fed two hourly through the day and four hourly at night. I just went with it

FartnissEverbeans · 16/06/2017 17:41

DS is 8mo and still doesn't go four hours without eating! He's not even a big baby - he's been consistently 50th febrile for weight and 75th for height, so pretty average.

FartnissEverbeans · 16/06/2017 17:42

*Centile, not febrile Confused

A baby should never drain the bottle. There should always be a little bit left so you know that they have chosen to stop rather than have just drank it all.

Heirhelp · 16/06/2017 17:45

Just wait until the day your baby has 11oz in one go!

lovelylilly · 19/06/2017 10:51

I think that his desire for milk sounds normal. I think every 4 hours is too long to wait for a baby of 5 weeks however. My boy was 8lbs 6oz at birth. He regularly had bottles every 3 hours (sometimes only going 2 hours between) at first, but as he got older he could go longer. We didn't give huge bottles, more like 3-4oz at first. So perhaps a smaller amount more often is better?
