If your DC#1 was a difficult baby...

...was DC #2 any easier? I know everyone's different blah blah blah, but I'm looking for stories of hope!

My DD was hard bloody work as a baby. Hated all prams, cots, car seats (screamed on every single car journey until 18 months old), did not sleep ever, would cry unless carried and preferably moving, and would often cry cry cry cry cry even then for hours on end. Could work self up to the point of vomiting through crying in about 2 minutes. No health issues, much loved baby (and now perfectly fine child!) but Christ she was hard.

Now considering ttc #2 and wondering whether #1 being hard means it's more likely another baby will be the same way. I used to look with such envy at the people at baby groups whose babies slept in prams and gurgled happily sometimes...

I think in very general terms second babies are often more laid back, possibly because parents are more experienced/relaxed and perhaps because they have to fit in with the rest of the household. No guarantees of course, but I have friends with "difficult" first babies who are amazed at the difference with their second.

DD was a hard work baby! Reflux allergies just very whiney. But slept ok ish. DS is a joy. Very smiley and content. But at 17 months still doesn't sleep well. You never know what you're gonna get!!

Ds1 was incredibly hard work as a baby and ds2 was a dream ate and slept like clockwork. So easy I couldn't believe the difference tbh.

Not me but my Dsis had an extremely laid back first baby, extremely difficult second one. It's a lucky dip imo!

Dd1 was difficult. Never slept, colic, fed all day every day, reflux etc etc.

I'm 12 weeks in with dd2 and she's a dream! Such an easy going baby who sleeps and can be distracted from my boobs for more than 5 mins and most of the time is happy to be put down for periods of time. It's fantastic!

Dd was a dream pregnancy and diifficult baby. Younger ds was a horrible pregnancy but is the easiest baby in the world!

DS1 was a dream baby, so easy, DS2 a complete reverse, so I can say with confidence no too babies are the same, so don't let it put you off!

I was tricked by my dc1 he was a dream, hardly cried, slept, ate generally an excellent laid back baby so thought this is easy let's have another! Silly silly me... dc2 as much as I love her has been a handful since she was born! Cried constantly, would only be held by me, hated baths, food, nappy changes, cot everything!

Every baby is different. X

Dd1 was a colicky, screamy nightmare for the first 7 months. Took me 4 years to even consider trying for number 2. Dd2 is a dream. Smiley and happy most of the time. She has a temper at times, but she is so easy compared to dd1 I just don't get flustered.
