One bottle of whole cows milk a day ok?

My DD2 is 10mo and ebf. She dislikes formula. However she grabbed DD1s bottle of whole milk and finished what was left!

I am wanting to wean her off bm soon but she loves it for comfort and hates dummies and formula so I was thinking to begin with offering her one bottle of whole milk in the evening? She is having her vitamins as advised by HV at check up.

Would love to know your thoughts.

If your DD was about 30, then the official advice would have been that this was absolutely fine. But current advice recommends it is not used as a main drink before one year.

I think you need to talk to a sensible HV about whether one drink a day of ordinary cow milk is OK (because it would be if she was eating same volume of milk in food)

Well, the advice is that ordinary milk not be their main drink until they are 1. But as she's still mostly BF, then I don't think one bottle every day is a problem. I wouldn't give her more than one bottle a day until she is over 12 months though and would make sure that she was still BFing.

Agree with the above posters, as cows milk is ok from age 1 but only if they are eating a wide variety of foods as well.
So I'd say if she is eating food and you are still breastfeeding its ok.

Only you out she is ebf- does that mean she is not yet eating any food? As if that is the case I would not give cows milk as it would simpley be replacing breastmilk and does not contain the right things to replace breastmilk unless she is already getting those lost minerals etc from food.

Sorry I meant ebf as in no formula, but yes she is having meals and enjoys a variety of veg and fruit, meat, yoghurt, cheese, egg etc. and still lots of bm.

I think I'll just introduce half a bottle of whole milk in the evenings.

Thanks for the responses.

We started the weaning process to cows milk at 11 months so I don't think 10 months makes a huge difference. I'd say like above if she has a good varied diet and still has bm/formula that a bottle a day won't hurt at all.
