This is a few years off for me yet but I can't stop thinking about it! DS is currently at nursery but I can't work out where he'll go before and after school.
Me and dh currently leave the house at 7.30am and take ds to nursery

He gets picked up at 5.
This arrangement obviously works fine now and he loves nursery (goes 4 days a week).
What options are actually out there when they start school?
What time do breakfast and after school clubs tend to run and approx how much do they charge?
Also do kids hate them?
What are "normal school hours"?
I am starting to feel incredible guilty. I was lucky enough to have my mum there until I was 11, she didn't work so she never missed a school drop off or pick up. I will only get to do this once a week and I feel sorry for ds.
Work won't let me drop to any less than 4 full days.
Any advice and experience will be welcome!

I had a complete nightmare.

I used a combination on different days ie nanny at the house morning and afternoon, childminder, breakfast and after school club and private nursery who did pick up and drop off.

The easiest and most reliable was the private nursery arrangement. Worst was childminder as she was entitled to annual leave and I had to find cover when she went away. Also breakfast club started too late and I didn't always get to work on time.

It got more difficult as they got older when they were in different schools at different times!

When DD was at nursery we both worked a 4 day condensed week - so both had one day off and then she went to nursery 2 full days and then one day luckily we had grandparents on hand.

now she is at school we both changed to 5 days a week but with two days each leaving at 2pm to get to school for pick up. dP does all drop offs and works later on his long days and I start earlier. also still have grandparents for one day pick up but if we didn't would do after school club.
