Feel silly talking to my newborn.

I feel a bit embarrassed writing this.
I feel silly talking/singing to my newborn. Especially when I am at home by myself. When my family are around DD they sing and talk to her and it seems to come so naturally. I feel like I'm talking to myself when I'm talking to her :-(. Now everyone is back at work it's going to be just me and DD for most of the day so I need to get talking! Any tips?
Ps I do talk to her. Like when I'm changing her or when she is upset. I just feel silly doing it!

I felt the same as you and didn't do the whole chatter thing. I said hiya a lot and consequently it was her first word at 7 months! What I will say is she is 6 and doesn't shut up so I don't think my lack of speech affected her!

I felt EXACTLY the same- didn't know what to say and everyone else did. I think gexaus your there all day it's harder. Baby won't care if you say the same thing all day. DS is now 4 months and I don't have a thought without saying it out loud! I tell him what we're doing what's going on around us etc.. I used to laugh at people who talk to themselves but i wonder if it starts after having a baby! It gets much easier when they interact back - by 'talking' or copying you mouth movements. Early days, nursery rhymes really helped us

I talked to my babies...but also did their answering.

"What will we have with steak tonight DD? Asparagus or peas?"

"Peas mummy, asparagus makes your wee smell"

"Good point DD. Will we have the Shiraz or the Pinot?"

"The Pinot, Daddy likes the Pinot better"

And on it went. To be fair, people must have thought I was bonkers. But it was quite fun.

I sung lots. Had a dreadful voice but its improved a lot and can now carry a tune.

So long as its anything from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Blush

I used to describe the front room/what was on the coffee table/books on the bookshelf if I had nothing else to say. He just loved the interaction.

Fake it til you make it, definitely!
