Reward chart for 2 yo - do they work?

Hi All,
My little boy is 3 in August, and whilst he's FAIRLY well behaved, I would like him to become a bit more self sufficient with regards to getting dressed in the morning, brushing his teeth etc.

What are your experiences with reward charts? Is he too young? What sort of rewards do you give (I seem to have the only toddler totally not fussed about stickers!)?

Following with interest... I have the same problem. Trying to get teeth brushed is as we are torturing DD.

I would guess too young. My son had one for potty training at 3 and a bit and he was not up for it at all. Potty training was fine but the sticker thing just passed him by.
But he's never been very keen on stickers.

We tried a sticker chart a few months ago for DD1 (same age as your DS), all that happened was a tantrum because she couldn't have all the stickers. I've seen a magnet one that I may try, but unsure if that would be better.

I started one with my 3 year old about three weeks ago to address his undesirable night time behaviours

From Day 1 it was instant success.

He has two rules to follow:

1. He has to stay in his own bed all night, no crying, shouting or generally being silly.
2. He cannot come into our bedroom into the sun comes out on his Gro-Clock.

I made his Reward Chart with him because he loves doing arts and crafts and currently, every morning he gets a Chocolate button and a star. He's got a huge pack of different coloured stars and every morning he chooses which one he wants and puts it on his chart - he loves it.

Everytind he earns 5 stars he gets a little £1 gift and when he hits 30 stars he is getting a new toy that he wants. We already have the toy in his house and he loves looking at it and knowing he's working towards having it

This is the first month we've tried it and like I said, he followed the rules from the very first night.

As we approach the second month we will start drawing out how often he gets treats. I.e he will still get his star every day but he might have a Chocolate button every other day and a £1 gift every 7/8 stars instead of the current 5 stars.

I was a bit dubious about doing it but we've had the best sleep in the last three weeks than we've probably had for about a year!

I've had mixed success with sticker charts but feel that they're always worth a go.

For getting ready in the morning etc, I've found a little routine checklist has been quite good. I got some printable 'cards' from an American blog (military wife and mom or something), so I have picture references for having a wee, washing hands, brushing teeth, getting clothes on etc stuck up. I refer my kids to it each morning and can ask where they're up to etc. Seems to work with a newly 2 year old, and 3 year old (who is pretty reliable anyway).
