fussy fingers

My DD is 13 months and I am starting to give her finger paints and dough to play with. Today I gave her some spare pastry to mush up but she wouldn't touch it.
She is BLW and shoves her fingers in her food, eats yoghurt with her hands and generally loves getting messy with food, but as soon as it is paint or dough she freaks out and won't touch it.
Any ideas?!

It might be that it's sticky and she doesn't like the texture. Have you tried allowing her to put talc on her hands first OR letting her try it with disposable gloves till she's comfy with the idea.

I don't suppose anyone has told her that she'll get poisoned if she puts anything other than food in her mouth have they? I have a vivid memory of my brothers telling me that if I ate mud then worms would grow in my tummy and come out of my nose.

Poor you but LOL at your brothers. I couldn't eat green sweets for years after my lovely sister told me they had poisin in to get the greedy kids!

She is happy to play with yoghurt, baked beans and other sauce type foods so I'm not sure if it's that, and I don't give her anything that will hamr her if eaten so let her lick her fingers if she wants, she just pokes it and then refuses to go anywhere near it, is very weird!

A couple of kids at a toddler group I went to didn't want to touch paint or playdough at first but after about 3 months of watching other children enjoy these activities they joined in.

Oh one of my brothers told me all sorts - I STILL can't eat honey because he told me it was made of mashed up bees brains (urgh)

Have you tried wrapping it in clingfilm so she can control it while prodding it?

My dd was quite like this. Very fastidious about getting messy hands. Anti-sandpits, mud, grass, paint and so on. She did grow out of it (to an extent - she is in no way the mudeating mucky league of ds).

But then she wasn't BLW whereas ds was.
