how long after eating can I take DS swimming?

DS is 18mths- just had small lunch (only really ate half a pitta bread with some hummous) - how long do I need to wait before I take him swimming?

am sure you could take him now - it's not like he's doing lengths or going for a full on swim

there was a thread a while back along these lines and somebody linked to a site that basically said it doesn't matter, the whole eating and swimming thing is an old wives tale.
