Pampers Nappy Pants - what about big poos?

I was wondering if anyone had tried those Pampers nappy pants that are being so heavily advertised at the moment?

They seem perfect in one way as DD has just started crawling VERY enthusiastically and I spend a lot of my life chasing her around the room with a nappy.

But I want to know what happens if there's a big messy poo (sorry). As they pull down, doesn't it go everywhere?

Any experience, anyone?

They tear on the side seam so you can take them off without having to pull them down. Found this out after reading the instructions 2 days after I'd bought them 😬

Awful things, just teach them to lie still for the second seconds it takes to put a nappy on. They'll have to keep still while you wipe the poo up anyway otherwise you'll get it everywhere!

Snap Why are they so awful? And, um, my 10 month old isn't that teachable about lying still. Though often it works if I wave a soft toy frantically with my teeth.

Well you have to strip the child's whole bottom half to get them on and as I said they need to lie still whilst you clean them up, what's wrong with an extra few seconds to put the new one on. And ten months old is perfectly possible to train....

None of the pull ups are anywhere as near as the same size in papers Baby-Dry.

Not a problem if your child doesn't drink/wee much. But if yours does, I would find myself going through about 30-50% more nappies per month due to kire frequent changes.

The fit around the thighs is also not as good as the 'normal' pampers nappies (Baby Dry/Active Fit). I find more clothes/bedding changes needed due to leaks from the sides nappies.

On the whole, pull ups are an unnecessary ball ache. On my 4th child now (she's 2.7y and still in Baby Dry). I will be avoiding pull ups of any description as much as possible.

This strikes me as more about parental excitment at moving in to the 'next stage', rather than an actual need.

Learn some distraction techniques to keep her still at nappy changing time. You'll need them long term - baby will have to be still to toilet and be wiped for a lonnggggg time to come.

Also on 4th child and wholeheartedly agree with FATE. We occasionally use pull ups but they're not as good as conventional nappies, as PPs have said.

DC4 is 19 months and very mobile and still has to lie on the mat for clean-up purposes. I would suggest you introduce lots of songs with actions (Wind the bobbin up a good one) - not only does it distract them but it keeps their hands busy while you negotiate that great stage when they shove their hands down there while you're trying to clean up.

I use them on 13 month old ds, mainly because they are the only nappies I've found that don't leak on him. I do find them a lot easier than regular nappies to put on too. If the nappy is just wet then I do the whole change with him standing up. And no, my baby won't stay still either, no matter what I try.

I also find baby baths and those nappy wrapper nappy bins very useful baby kit though, (both of which always appear on mners lists of useless baby products), so I might be on my own with this one too .

I may be wrong but I think pull ups/nappy pants are a lot more expensive than normal nappies. Which is why Pampers et al are so keen to get you to "move on" to them.

IME the stage of fleeing from the nappy mat is over fairly quickly. You may regret changing to something more expensive and less absorbent rather than persuading your child to keep still for a minute or too.

And don't forget, pull ups means they can pull them down if they are so minded

Try giving her a toy (or if desperate, your phone!) to keep her still for a minute.

I found the nappy fleeing stage was quite short lived. I used to have both types of nappies on hand and just used the pull-ups if my toddler was particularly difficult as they are more expensive.

I just use the Tesco ones, they're fine.

I've never got on with pull ups, more faff that putting a normal nappy on imo.

I put a nappy on my knee and then hold baby on top and do it up, has worked a treat for my DC

I actually found them more difficult to get on a wriggly toddler. Luckily DS (20 months) has just started, in the last few weeks, asking to have his nappy changed and happily lying there while I do it. It was a very different situation a few months ago.

Unfortunately DGS has discovered he can pull them down even with leggings on top...........they don't fit anywhere as well as nappies.

They fit my scrawny 20mo pretty well, size 4. They're much quicker to put on when she's bored after a poo change and more consistent when she's being stroppy. She likes putting her feet through the holes so it gets her on side when she's had enough of my distraction techniques.

I like them. They're much less fiddly than ordinary ones. Don't have problems with absorbency. Easy to take off. I find they leak less than normal ones but maybe I'm just bad at doing them up.

I like them! Wouldn't be without our pull ups now! So much easier when then want to wriggle away. They just tare off at the sides easy enough
