15 month old hungry all the time!

Hi all,

My 15 month old son has always been a good eater (apart from green veg unless they are hidden!) but the past couple of days he seems unstoppable! He has been going up to the high chair, whining and crying and only happy again once he's eaten. He's having a balenced diet - lots of healthy food, protein, full fat dairy, carbs, snacks etc and a cup of milk morning and evening.

Growth spurt? He's always been a bit little, born on 9th and now on 25th percentile. He was sick just once last week - making up for that?

I guess I'm just asking if anyone else's child goes through phases like this and if it's normal!

Thanks all.

My 16 month old eats like a horse. It's a bit of a standing joke with friends. She's chunking up and has a little tummy but is still on a lower weight than height centile so I let her have as much healthy stuff as she wants.
Only thing to check is that he's not confusing hunger with thirst? But if he's drinking well I'd say let him eat!

Thanks newmum. He drinks loads (water from a free flow cup) so I don't think it's thirst.

He stars off the day supper skinny, but his tummy just gets bigger as the day goes on - normal?

People comment on how slim he is - no cute baby rolls here! He's also small (still easily in 9-12 month clothes) but strong! Nursery is always commenting on how much he eats, but like I said in my OP the last few days have been epic!

Is he having the minimum 300 ml of full fat milk a day? You can always give him a little more if he's so hungry Smile

I think you might be talking about my son! He's 14 months and eats tons. Also flits between 9th and 25th and still happily in 9-12 month clothes. He's put a little weight on his thighs this last week but is otherwise still skinny apart from his tummy but it's healthy and balanced food.

Nursery politely said he was "passionate about food"!

Both my boys are huge eaters! DS1 was in 98th percentile for weight as baby, DS2 was 75th. Now both 50th (DS1 is 5, and DS2 is 3), but both eat more than me (I'm really not exaggerating! and I'm not slim!!) Average day for both - porridge and honey for breakfast (same size portion as DH), morning snack (apple and milk for example!) lunch could be something like ham sandwiches, fruit, crisps, yoghurt. Snack later - maybe another sandwich or something! of chocolate!! Then full dinner with pudding!!! They never stop!!! Must b a boy thing!! .. but then they have so much energy we reckon they must run the equivalent of a marathon (or maybe a half!!) a day!! so I guess they need all this food!! (When DS1 was around 16 months old, he ate more than he does now!!) I think we might havd to re-mortgage the house to pay for the food by the time they're teenagers!!!
