Toddler hates new shoes

He has two new pairs, feet are 6 - 6.5, last boots were 5.5 so he really needs to wearthe new ones. He's gone from wanting his old boys on all the time and putting them on himself, to screaming when I try and put the new ones on. It's not that they are uncomfortable, he's not kept them on.long enough to find out.

DD quite likes stickers so if she's being weird about her shoes (for any number of reasons, the whims of a three year old!) I let her stick stickers on them and that usually solves the problem for a while.

We still have the old boots but I've put them away.

Just make him wear them......well. I put them on, he sat down and took them off. Put them on again and took him outside (loves to go for a walk) went to put him down, wouldn't put feet on the floor. Put him down on his bum. He took them off. He's 22 months old. Doesn't like stickers yet.....

Are you sure they fit him ok Notta? We bought a pair from Clarks years ago and ended up taking them back because DS was the same. Turned out his feet had been measured incorrectly.

How many times have you tried? My ds did this - I just let him wear the old ones that day then put them away, and the following day got the new ones out again and he was fine. Toddlers, huh?

He is currently doing the same with his football kit for a new football class. I've put it in the wash and am hoping that will 'fix' it.

everyone I did wonder about one pair as they have elasticated bits,and are a kind of low boot and are tighter to get on, although he ran around the house in them yesterday. But the second pair are shoes with Velcro and are a size bigger than his old boots. Also, he literally refused to stand in them so pretty sure they haven't hurt. They aren't too tight

And do what though everyone? If he won't wear either of these very different pairs, he might not want to wear any different ones?

Can't you bribe him by saying do you want to go to the park/favourite place? Well you have to wear your shoes, etc.

My son hated new shoes. We had to just leave them sitting out somewhere he could see them for a few days then he wore them quite happily. Strange kid.

When ds was little he didnt like wearing shoes. We bought him a pair with a little squeaker in it and he loved them. The downside was that we had to put up with squeaks every time he walked but ddog though it was great :D By the time he grew out of them he was more accepting of new shoes.

DS used to do this at about the same age, I just used to leave them out so he could play with them and keep putting them on whenever he needed shoes on, always came round within a couple of days 🙄

Are you sure they fit him? When we took DD to the shoe shop she tried on five pairs in the same size but only one of those was a good fit- it depends on shape of foot too (DD has a high instep and narrow heels).

I'd take them back. Make a big how of taking them back, we don't like these shoes do we eTC etc, let's choose some we do like and the the minute he has them on and accepting of them take him for a walk to get some chocolate buttons in the new shoes direct from the show ship. Positive associations and all that. Bloody toddlers.
