Baby sleepy after 8 week immunisations

My son had his first lot of immunisations this morning. He's been a little cranky on and off. I've taken his temperature using a digital thermometer several times throughout the day which is fine. However, he's been very sleepy today, with a few longish naps. Lately he hasn't napped much as he's been far too interested in looking at people/things instead so him sleeping so much today is bit more unusual . Plus he's not been very interested in milk. He usually LOVES his food. He starts crying like normal for food but only taken 2-3oz every fee hours as opposed to drinking the full bottle. He's been okay at times with a spurt earlier of being very alert and happy in his bouncer and few smiles as normal but his eating and sleeping is a little off.

I've given him 2 doses of Calpol (2.5ml) one at 9.45am and the other at 3pm. He's my first baby so looking for a little reassurance that this is all normal.

Mine was the same; slept all day after his jabs. Back to normal the next day.

Cakescakescakes · 27/04/2017 18:54

Totally normal.

Booboostwo · 27/04/2017 19:56

Afternoon vaccinations was the only time DD ever slept! Enjoy the quiet time.

I'd be laying off the Calpol if he doesn't have a fever and is not in pain.

Mine was the same after each set of vaccinations. Was back to normal self the next day.

MadeForThis · 27/04/2017 20:10

I was also advised to give a couple of doses of calpol. It's recommended when they get the meningitis jab.

Clickncollect · 27/04/2017 20:10

Totally normal, my boy was very clingy afterwards and I was still breastfeeding at the time so I just gave myself up to the sofa and snuggled for the rest of the day while he slept or fed here and there. He wasn't 100% the next day either but not as bad as the day the immunisations were done.

Peachesandcream15 · 27/04/2017 20:26

Totally normal. Enjoy the quiet!

3 doses of calpol are recommended when they have the men b vaccine.

Thanks everyone. He's been asleep solidly since about 6pm except for a small bottle (again only took just over 3oz) so nice to know it's fairly normal. Just making sure he's having lots of cuddles Smile

Dd slept all day and all night. Didn't really want milk and moaned when she woke up. But she was fine the next day!

We've just had the 3rd lot of jabs today and i was dreading her being as poorly as she was with the first ones but she has coped really well. She slept for 4 hours afterwards but woke up happy. Although she is seeming a bit unsettled tonight.

FartnissEverbeans · 28/04/2017 06:46

Mine too. I think he used up a lot of energy screaming Confused Gave me a real front because he went sort of pale immediately afterwards and fell asleep straight away. He was fine though

Skp87 · 28/04/2017 06:54

He'll be fine just keep up the regular carpool x

Skp87 · 28/04/2017 06:55

Omg calpol not carpool!

ButtMuncher · 28/04/2017 07:03

Totally normal OP. Don't worry - I was you about 6 months ago. Lots of cuddles, offer milk, and keep an eye on temp. Your little one is fighting off the injection which is exactly what they're supposed to do Grin

My 10 week old daughter is normally wide awake all day only naps for an hour in the whole day but today shes had her immunisation and shes very sleepy and im quite worried, is normal for her to be sleepy?

Mamaaaaaa · 17/04/2018 14:31

Ive just found the responses from someone else asking never mind! Grin

Cellina1987 · 17/04/2018 22:58

My LO had his first jabs today, broke my heart! Also really sleepy and not asking for the boob a lot. How am I gonna survive the next lot as today was horrible. He never cries but his scream was just unreal 😞 xxx

Mamaaaaaa · 18/04/2018 07:20

When he's asleep try feeding him then i found that helps, it is awful watching LO in pain but its best they have them done, hopefully he feeds more today xx

It’s so heart breaking seeing them get the jabs :( DD has been all cranky the whole day. I can’t believe she’s gonna have to go through the same in 4 weeks time again :(

MrsO35 · 11/12/2018 17:44

Hello all, my little one had his 8 week injections this morning and he’s really pale (yet still quite warm) did anyone else find this??

Newmumofone2019 · 17/04/2019 22:45

My little boy had his first set today and I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought. I gave him a wash before hand and made sure he had a bottle so when we got there he was asleep. My husband held him and when the nurse did the injections he cried for like 10 seconds and then fell back to sleep 😮 he has been very sleepy all day but we think the Calpol may be doing this, the nurse said to give Calpol every 4 to 6 hours for 24 hours for the Men B vaccine. He has also been off his milk only taking small amounts but after reading comments above I feel relieved xx

So glad I found this! I was worried about my DD today but I'm much more reassured now. Thanks guys x

And I havre also gave her calpol and 7 hours has been passed i need to give her again next doze but she didn't drink milk yet can I giver her next doze??

Fifi1985 · 27/06/2020 20:01

My daughter had her 8 week vaccinations two days ago. Yesterday she had a fever and was sleepy and unsettled. I gave her calpol 3 times. Today no calpol but has slept most of the day. She's quite pale too. She's not taken much milk (taking 2 oz instead of 4). I know you said its normal for the first day of their injections, but is this normal for the day after the injections?

Thank you x

Fifi1985 · 27/06/2020 20:02
