18 month DS poo'ed himself in his sleep

DS has never poo'ed in his sleep. I've just gone in to check on him watch him sleeping & kiss him goodnight and his bedroom stank of shit. He's had a poo and is sleeping soundly. He hasn't cried out at all tonight so it seems he's done it in his sleep.

Normal? Worrying?

He's never ever poo'ed in his sleep since he was born? I would say that was very unusual.

Very normal indeed. Any dietary changes/other routine changes/unusual activies that could have delayed or brought on a vowel movement? But really nothing to worry about!

If he was 18 years yes, but 18 months no. Bless him he's still only little.

Totally normal. My DD used to do it loads. She was a bit of a poo withholder and it used to come out when she was sleeping and relaxed. If I had a pound for every time I walked into a stinking bedroom and had to rouse a sleeping child to change her nappy in the dark, I'd have a fair few quid.

I assume he is wearing a nappy. So what's the problem? Or is he potty trained already?

He's got a cold and has been eating a lot of weetabix (his comfort food). Probably need to cut back on that before I get myself into a frenzied panic.

And no, he's never been a nighttime poo'er. He spent a while in NICU so I don't know about when he was a very newborn but since we got him home he's always been a once a day boy.

He's in a nappy, it's not a problem in that respect .It's just very unusual for him.

We all have a change in bowel habit once in a while, don't we? Don't fret. It's normal.

My dd never did at night either until a similar age and I remember being freaked out! I honestly thought babies didn't poo at night as she didn't, after the first few weeks.

I posted in parenting not in AIBU. I don't think the sarcastic comments are necessary. I don't think it's weird posting a concern and seeking advice about a toddler on a parenting forum. Weird user name, OK Userxxxxxx!!!

I'm concerned about a change in bowel habits in an 18 month old. He should be getting more bowel control, not less.

My son is 11 months and I can't remember him ever pooing at night, so I'd be a bit surprised/worried too.
I think it is probably all the weetabix!

My dd also never poos at night but did for a few nights when we started weaning. I would say it's the weetabix, that definitely makes my dd go. Definitely nothing to be worried about.

He's been showing an awareness of going for a poo for a while and usually takes himself to a corner or under a table to poo (nowhere near ready for potty training though) so this is very unusual for him.

He's got a horrid mucousy cold so we've let him scoff weetabix as he has no appetite but it's obviously not doing him any good.

My 2 month old baby also doesn't poo at night!

A bit late now but I hope you changed him - that weetabix sets like concrete and my kids always got sore bums with a cold. The sweeteners in Calpol etc can be laxative too.
