Tongue tie in second child?

I am 12 weeks pregnant with my second and when registering with the midwife she said that as my DS had tongue tie it's likely baby number 2 will do as well. Has anyone else had experienced this? DS' posterior tongue tie was noticed at 7 weeks after some difficulty in breastfeeding and after it was divided it still took a long time to get back on track. The midwife said to make sure they check for it in hospital after baby number 2 is born - but I've heard that it can't always be spotted that early. Any thoughts/experiences would be much appreciated!!

I had misdiagnosed tongue tie with my first and only.

The advice I would give to anyone wanting to breast feed is before the baby is born to research where the nearest milk cafes are and head down there soon as you have any concerns. I asked the midwife at the hospital but she said he was fine - he wasn't. I started going to milk cafe and thankfully got a referral to the tongue tie clinic at Kings in London (near where I live).

If it is all too difficult then I would go straight to a private lactation consultant - google them for ones in your area. Do this all before the birth so you're not scrabbling around on no sleep.

I didn't get my son's tongue tie dealt with until he was five weeks old. I pumped milk like no tomorrow but also gave him formula. Once his tongue tie had been diagnosed I wad allowed to use nipple shields which helped. I finally ditched the formula and the bottle at about 8 weeks and breast fud him until just before his first birthday when he went on a feeding strike. So, even if your baby does have tongue tie, if you plan for it you can get it sorted and even if you end up having to express, you can come back from it. But don't just rely of the midwife in the maternity ward- get a second opinion.
