Settling 1 Year Old In the Night

Hi,

I have a one year old son who at the moment is fighting sleep during the day, this in turn makes the night difficult as he is very overtired. I am pretty sure its just a phase.

However, the last couple of night he has woke up and it has taken us almost 3 hours to settle him. The issue is he cries at everything we do to try to help so he screamed and cried the whole duration.

He screamed even though I tried the following;
Breastfed him (was fine and then continued crying when done)
Held him
Rocked him
Left him to settle in his cot
Rubbed his back whilst in the cot
Brought him in our bed (he kept trying to stand so I cuddled him and he still screamed as he doesnt like to be held in bed)
Held him in silence in the dark
Tried sitting in our room which has a little light
Sang to him

There is nothing physically wrong with him, its not teething or anything like that. I just wondered if anyone had experienced the same and what did they do. Or perhaps if he is overtired then we can't do anything except try to get him back on schedule?

Is he walking yet? This may be a very short phase before he starts to walk?

No he isnt walking yet but he tries to take a couple steps here and there. I feel he is close.
