I am totally freaking out and am grossed out. So My daughter is nearly 3 and I gave her soft boiled egg and soldiers this morning. half way through I fed her a bit and noticed the white was a bit of a weird texture and it also smelt different - not particularly sulphurous just weird... not normal. soooo worried she is going to get ill. obviously then threw away the egg (much to DD disappointment)

The egg was well in date 17th april infact.

I guess what I am hoping to hear is that if she gets food poisoning she will be alright - or better still, some eggs smell funny :(

Any advice is good as I feel sick and cant get the off smell out of my brain.

An egg that is properly off, will really stink - it is unmistakable.

The acid in our stomachs does kill some bacteria anyway, so if she only had a little bit of the egg, even if there was something wrong with it, she is unlikely to get ill, I'd have said - especially as the egg was well in date.

You're not pregnant are you OP?!
If it's a lion stamped egg and in date it's extremely unlikely that she'll be ill. And if she does get sick it will not be that bad - it won't be one of the really nasty bugs.
(I work for Defra who look after animal health. Not actually directly involved in eggs but I probably know more than you about chicken diseases and I wouldn't worry in this situation.)
