11w/o bottle feeding troubes

DD is bottle formula fed, from birth we used Tommie tipee bottles and cow and gate milk. At 7 weeks old all of the sudden she began refusing feeds, screaming, arching back and turning her head anytime we out the bottle near her mouth. Took her to the GP and she was treated for thrush for 3 weeks as the problems didn't go away. Turned out she didn't have thrush from a swab test coming back negative.
Back to the GP and she prescribed DD gaviscon which seems to help a little bit made her constipated, after a few days it all started again...
we change the temp of her bottles and again it helped a little for a few days and then back to refusing and screaming.
We changed her milk to HIPP thinking maybe she cow and gate was to heavy on her stomach? Again it worked for a few days them back to refusing.
We bought new bottles and she wouldn't even entertain them.
We've been giving her infolcol incase it's wind but I'm at my wits end with it. I know she's hungry but she puts up a fight to take the bottle. She's putting on weight and following her centile perfectly but it's a bloody night mare to feed her.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do next? I'm out of ideas

Have you tried changing the teat size on the Tommie tipee bottles?

How often and how much milk is she having and are you feeding to schedule or on demand?

she's having 4/5oz every 3 hours during the day. We're feeding on demand she's on her own schedule same time ever day.
I should have mentioned we changed her test size when the problems started. She's on size 2

DS gets on a lot better with Dr Brown's bottles.
Equally, we're having problems with teeth moving at the minutes (DS is 12 weeks). Dentinox seems to ease it enough to allow him to take his milk. Although he doesn't arch his back tbf

As she is a healthy weight id start stretching the gap between feeds and see if the crying three hourly is habit.
Is she about 3 months now? That seems like small feeds.

If it improved with gaviscon then it sound like reflux, as donthe symptoms you described. Go back to the Dr and ask for rantadine.

Stop using the infacol and after your little one has been on the rantadine for a few days try gripe water. The boots gripe water mixture is the best.

Tommy Tippee bottles are not great. Try anti colic ones eg MAM. Make sure you are feeding your baby up right and hold them up for half an hour after every feed. By now your little one will probably need to be on size 2 teats but this varies per baby.

If youve changed your teat size it may be wind as the milk is coming out faster. DS had bad wind at that age and infacol did bugger all. I ended up having to wind him every few minutes ( couldn't tell how many ounces as he's BF) but at a guess every 2 ounces. It solved the problem. How often do you burp her? Might be worth trying to burp her every ounce and see if it helps.

Alternatively has she been tested for dairy intolerance? You can get special milk for it if so.

Could also be colic. I'd go to the GP and ask to be referred to a pediatrician if you don't manage to sort it. I find GP'S don't always know everything and have misdiagnosed my DS on numerous occasions.

The gaviscon constipated her so I'm guessing the other still will be worse?!

I wind her after every oz and usually get a good few burps out. I tried gripe water and that didn't so much for her.
I did think she might have an intolerance to something in the formula but what kinda of symptoms would I be looking out for?

Gaviscon works by thickening the milk so it sits heavier on the stomach and stops excess stomach acid from splashing up as much. As it thicken the milk it also thicken the poo and causes constipation. Rantadine reduces the amount of stomach produced.

Agree with Heirhelp - sounds exactly like severe reflux. Try ranitidine, it worked wonders with my son.

I had the exact same problem with my son. He would get really upset when feeding, arching his back and crying as if in pain. We also tried gaviscon which made him constipated and didn't seem to help the feeding at all. Went back to the GP and asked for Ranitidine and it completely worked for him. He is now 5 months and we just took him off the ranitidine in the last week and he is completely fine feeding now.

Went to the GP yesterday he wasn't much help tbh. We've to give her two sachets of the gaviscon. He said because she's following her centile and putting weight on their not really that worried. I asked about ranitidine and he said they very rarely give it to baby's and only give it if the baby is drastically losing weight. He basically said just deal with it! Which is awful because she's obviously uncomfortable and distressed about something when feeding. Their testing her for a water infection and said if she does have one maybe that's why she's struggling? Who knew water infections effected feeding because I didn't.
Should I be giving her a little bit of water during the day to prevent her from becoming constipated?

With formula feeding I think it's recommended to give sips of sterile water to prevent dehydration. I don't know how many people do this but its definately worth a try.

OP if you are unsure of what to look for in Cow's milk allergy, p,ease have a read of this on the Allergy UK website.

Just seen your question on offering water. You can add water to the bottle if you baby is constipated. If you check the carton it will tell you how much extra yiu can add.

As for the GP, you may have to make a nuisance of yourself. I found mine on,y really listened to me if I took DH along too.

Lura7115 I would be seeing another gp. Gavuscon didn't work at all and with ranitadine it was like another baby. Xx

Apparently ranitidine is usually given to adults for stomach ulcers 😕 I'm going to speak to my health visitor on Wednesday to see if she can help at all.
The GP I seen reminds be very much of doc Martin 'it's just growing pains, ul be alright in the morning' lol I did take DP with me, he always comes first support when it's one of the children

It is, it's also given to babies with reflux. Both mine had it.

I have to agree with pp about ranitidine. We struggled on till she was 7 weeks old with gaviscon and then they finally let us have ranitidine. It really is like we have a different baby. She settles so much better. We still have some screaming but not for the hours and hours we did have.
