Help! Managing 3 year olds tantrums

In search of any advice to better manage my sons tantrums. Most of the time (and all the time in his 3 days at nursery) he's beautifully behaved. Good manners, loving, shares nicely etc.

However, when he gets cross it's like another child. He gets in an uncontrollable rage so quickly and over very minor things. He lashes out physically by stamping, throwing and recently hitting or kicking me (occasionally dad never anyone else). He's NT no concerns otherwise.

He sometimes responds to giving him a safe place to hit/kick/throw then will talk and calm down. Sometimes responds to sanctions eg losing tv time, extra stories etc. But if these don't work nothing seems to work. I can't ignore him as he will deliberately do things I can't ignore like hitting me or shoving furniture etc.

Any advice? !
