Insights into moving back to home town after having children

Im pregnant, I live 60 miles from parents which is hust that bit too far to pop down.

My question is have you moved back home when youve had a baby and growing children, and how did you find it?

It is something that crosses my mind, support for me, childcare & relationship with grandparents, nephews, nieces etc but leaving a job I love, career prospects, friends I worry about.

Tell me your experiences........

We bought our first house almost in our home town (one town away, 15 minutes in car to the house I grew up in) 2 years ago today (so before I was pregnant with DS but with children at back of our mind).

We lived our twenties in a different country and then moved back in 2012, renting a place around 50 miles away from home town. We wanted to 'put down roots' and the area where we grew up is affordable with great commuting links and amenities, and so it made sense to move back there. DH and I are from same home town by the way (although we only met at uni).

I've found that many friends are starting to move back home/to more family friendly areas anyway so staying near the buzz didn't really make sense.

I know many who move back when they have children. For precisely the benefits you pointed out. Are there opportunities for career near your home town?

Thanks for you replies, its a rural area around parents and as such opportunities are restricted. We both work in the NHS so wouldnt be without jobs but where we currently live there are lots of different employers so theres lots of opportunity, home area theres only one main trust employing = less. Were both quite career minded people too (obviously this will take a back seat when baby arrives but its part of what makes us both happy in the long run).
