No teeth at 10 months, should I not give lumpy foods?

My boy is 10months with no teeth. It's recommended to start giving luppier food but seen as he doesn't have teeth is this going to be ok?
He is fine with finger food like breadsticks and toast etc... so don't think it is a problem??
Also 10 months and no teeth - is that totally strange?!?

None of mine had teeth before they were one and they all managed finger foods/lumps.

I tried to go for soft things that were easy to break down with their gums: veg, pasta etc.

He should be fine.

My ten month old nephew has no teeth yet. He's not fond of really lumpy food so we're all sticking to smooth stuff for now.

It's fine - lots of little ones still don't have teeth at 10 months, but seem to be able to manage many foods with those hard gums (the teeth are presumably not far below. Obviously don't try anything tough like lumps of steak yet.

soft lumps should be fine - gums with teeth growing towards the surface are pretty hard.

Neither of mine had teeth until 12mo and DS2 completely missed the smooth puree stage, starting with rough purees, soft lumps and anything that would dissolve on gumming at about 9mo.

My youngest only had one tooth at 16 months but could manage to eat a whole apple.
Apart from DC1 who was weaned early all mine started on whole or lumpy foods, the only smooth food they had was naturally smooth like yogurt. As pp said the teeth are there so the gums are very hard. Lumpy and whole foods help develop the muscles needed for speech so it's important to offer them.

He is the only one in baby group who doesn't have a tooth yet so you all put me at ease. And I'll try some soft lumps and see how we go- thanks again!

My son is coming up 11 months and he has no teeth.
I've been so paranoid when I feed him. He only had some finger food for the first time about 5 weeks ago. He's doing great with it and loves feeding himself.
I made his banana a bit more lumpy when I mashed it and he wasn't wild on it to start. If I snap a banana into 2 pieces and give it to him he will eat it all. They can mush food up with their gums which seem to be pretty strong and tough.
I also give him grated cheese sometimes which he really enjoys. Toast, brioche. What else? Vegetables. Clementines, but yes, the gums will be able for lumps it depends on if he likes them. Try if you are comfortable with it letting him feed himself some food in chunks.

My Dd didn't get her first tooth until just under 11 months, and her keywords at nursery said she managed lumps better than the ones with teeth. Their gums are so hard at that stage, she was quite good at getting through most foods.

No need to purée anything. Their gums are hard enough to crush most foods.

My toothles 8mo s DS has been eating lumpy foods since i started weaning at 6 months. He spits out anything too smooth so we just went straight in with mostly normal food. Obviously nothing too tough but he eats almost what we do.

DS is 13.5 months. He has one tooth just poking through but not really there and eats everything except some harder fruits. Those gums are very hard!

DS is 7 months and we're doing baby led weaning so all his food is solid. Their gums are tough enough to get through most things - DS can chew meat, pepper, apple etc although obviously softer foods are easier

Ds did blw so had proper solid food from six months with no teeth so you should be fine.

Another one with a DD who got first tooth at 1. She was eating everything well before the tooth appeared, no problem with lumps at all.

DD didn't have teeth until 13 months. She was weaned quite quickly onto finger food and lumps of food, rather than puree. Their gums are pretty hard ime - dd could easily manage bits of steak, hard fruit and vegetables, breadsticks, etc no problem.
