How much does your 2 year old nap?

My son has just turned 2 and until recently has only been having an afternoon nap. Usually 1-2 hrs each day. Recently he has been very tired in the morning so has been napping then as well. This is for 45mins-1hr. Sometimes he then finds it hard to nap in the afternoon.

Would you keep the morning nap or make him drop it? If he hasn't been napping in the morning his behaviour has not been great. Unsure what other children are like at this age.

Mine has an hour around 11-12. If he has any more he doesn't go to sleep til gone 9pm.

Depends what we've been doing. After nursery he has a solid 2-3 hour nap, then goes back down at 8.30. Weekends he doesn't tend to nap unless it's been a really busy day.

Mine dropped his nap shortly before his 2nd birthday, however he might drop off for 10 mins or so in the car after a very busy day. This suits me very well as when he still napped he got up at 5am every morning. Now he sleeps 7pm to 7am.

My Dd aged 27 months generally naps for about 1hr 15 mins just before or just after lunch.

Sometimes she won't nap at all or has very little.

If she has a morning nap, I definitely wouldn't get her to have a second nap as it would ruin bedtime.

IndianaMoleWoman · 25/03/2017 19:20

At 2yrs 3mths DD only really naps if we've been out somewhere in the car and drive back in the afternoon. Weirdly this never sees to impact bedtime, even if she falls asleep at 5pm. If she does fall asleep it's because she really needs it. I'd say it happens 1-2 times a week.

Mine napped 11-1pm ish for ages and then woke up and had breakfast. It didnt start to push until after lunch until he was well over 2.

My daughter is 2.4 and naps approx 4 days per week, usually between 1-3pm. I almost always have to wake her from nap but can't leave her or its a nightmare getting her down at bedtime. Bed 8pm on nap days. On days with no nap she's in bed & asleep by 7pm. Hth

Thank you for the responses

I think maybe I will try and keep going with the afternoon nap and drop the morning nap and see how that goes for now. He does get up early, usually by 6, so I guess that's half the problem in the morning.

At that age DD1 napped from about 10.30 am - 11.30. She stopped napping at 2.2 years.

DD2 napped from 1.30 pm / 2pm - 3pm. She stopped routinely doing this at about 2.8. She turned 3 this month and in the past 2 months has been occasionally napping for an hour after lunch.

Up until the age of two my DS would have a morning nap and an afternoon nap (both 1.5 hours long) but shortly after his second birthday we dropped him to one nap after his lunch.

He's recently turned 3 and he still has his nap after lunch where he sleeps between 1.30-3.15pm. He's up at 6am every day so he's well ready for a sleep in the afternoon Smile

My DS has just turned 2 and goes for a nap starting between 12-1 and lasting normally 1.5-2hrs. We have lunch very early (about 11.30) but that generally fits in with playgroups etc that we want to go to. I think in your situation I'd probably go with the early nap, though, and drop the later one if that means he's in a better mood!

Dd is 2.5 and needs a nap most days although to my annoyance will only nap in the car. She has between 45 minutes and 2 hours from about 1:30, then in bed for 7. She is a mess come 4pm if she hasn't napped

Ecureuil · 26/03/2017 09:40

Mine dropped her nap completely at 20 months.
