7mo wants to stand...ALL the time!

My DS is 7 mo, and now just loves standing....ok, not a totally random thing, but am worried I'll damage his hip joints etc. He has always been very strong (pulling himself to a sitting, and then standing, position from around 3.5 months, while holding your hands)
If you hold him under the arms, whith his feet on the floor/lap, he'll activeley remove them so your just holding his hands. Is this bad for him do you think???

my ds was just the same, always dragging himself upright, used to pull himself up with our hands from early as well and used to love "just standing" holding onto things. I would say if he is a strong chap and enjoying himself then it should be OK. If he's struggling physically with it and looks awkward then maybe not, but sounds OK to me! ds as a result got good at balancing very early, and was walking early too. Has always been very secure on his feet. Seems to be a physical little chap as he was early with this but very late with talking!Your ds might be the same.

I don't think there is anything to worry about! My ds was much the same, and his hips / other leg and foot joints seem just fine - it's your back that you'll have to watch out for, leading him around by the hands all the time.

My perspective on ythis sort of thing has always been that if a child can do something by themselves then it's OK for thwem to do it. So if he can do this with something inanimate (eg table leg, chair) that won't help him, then it's fine. If OTOH he can only do it ifyou actively help him then you don't really know whether he's develpomentally ready to do it, and, IMO, you shpouldn;t do it 'all' the time.

my ds was the same. Friend told me about the hip joints, so I rushed him off to hv who laughed me out of the surgery. Apparently, if he's ready for it, and he's trying to do it for himself, it's fine.

ds 18 months old now, runs around all the time, NO damage to hips at all.
